A day trip north of Barcelona took us to Figueres, the birthplace of infamous Spanish surrealist Salvador Dali. This trip to visit Dali’s own museum, built out of the remains of a castle, was one of many on my bucket list. I was excited to see it. Unfortunately, we find out after purchasing tickets that we had a couple of hours before our allotted time to enter the museum. So, it was suggested we visit the Catalonian Castle of Sant Ferran, once a fort to defend the border against France then later served as a prison.
It was a short walk through town. The castle, which is more like a fort, sits on a high point of the city with an amazing 360 view of northern Catalonia. It seemed we were the only ones there, as we decided to do this on a weekday we got to explore the whole complex on our own.
